Burns can cause rapid edema and airway swelling, and inhalation injuries can compromise ventilation quickly, so getting the airway secured early is essential. At the same time, maintaining sufficient perfusion to prevent shock is critical, which is why clinicians aim for a mean arterial pressure around 70 mmHg to support organ perfusion during resuscitation. Wound cleansing, debridement, and definitive grafting are important later steps after the airway and circulation are stabilized. Pain management is addressed, but it does not take precedence over securing the airway and maintaining perfusion.
